Our Story
In 2014, I opened a small child care program so I could stay home with my daughter and keep doing the work I loved. From the beginning, I wanted to create a space where children felt safe, seen, and cared for.
Over time, as I learned more about what children needed to thrive, I found myself pulled toward nature-based learning and Indigenous ways of knowing. The work shifted and it became less about checking boxes, more about following where kids’ curiosity led, listening to what they had to say, and making real room for play that mattered.
That shift is why the name changed from Red River Early Learning Center to Sorrel & Cedar. It feels truer to what this program has become: a home learning space built on connection, care, and deep respect for childhood.
Who We Serve / What Families Can Expect
Sorrel & Cedar serves families who are looking for a thoughtful, relationship-based early learning environment. Our program is especially well-suited for children who thrive in smaller group settings, with consistent caregivers, mindful daily structure, and time to settle deeply into their day.
Families can expect:
- A calm, home-based environment with a predictable rhythm
- Strong, responsive relationships between children and caregiver
- Daily opportunities for nature-connected, hands-on learning
- Support for emotional development, self-regulation, and expression
- Clear communication and a collaborative partnership with families
- Care practices that prioritize health, safety, and mutual respect
Sorrel & Cedar is for families who value intentional care, collaboration, and a slower rhythm. Children here are treated as capable, curious, and competent.
