At Sorrel and Cedar Early Learning and Care, we’re committed to creating a place where children can grow, play, and thrive in ways that feel safe, joyful, and guided by care. Health and wellness are part of that commitment. They’re not separate from learning and play; they’re woven into how we care for one another every day.
We follow a thoughtful, proactive approach to well-being grounded in compassion and supported by current science. Research continues to show that some infections can have lasting effects on children’s immune systems and overall development. Because of this, we treat prevention as a natural part of loving and responsible care.
To support the health and well-being of the children in our care, we’ve implemented the following important practices.

But don’t children need to get sick to build strong immune systems?
There’s a common belief that children need to get sick to build a healthy immune system, but did you know that current research suggests otherwise? What children really need is regular exposure to rich, biodiverse environments (or, in other words, the outdoors!). This is one of the many reasons we dedicate so much time to exploring in our outdoor classroom and visiting the forest. Nature doesn’t just support immunity; it sparks learning and wonder too!
